River Vainganga passes through Ghosikhurd village in Pawani block of Nagpur district. It is here on Vainganga that Indira Sagar dam is being built. The dam is 11 km long and 22.5 m high. Around 200 villages will be submerged and As per the project’s official estimates, around 81,623 people are going to be displaced due to the construction of this dam. Of these, 75 villages are such that not only the homestead but the agricultural land too, will be submerged.
Vilas is helping the effected people organise and fight for compensation and other rights related with proper resettlement. He is also organising tribals and forest dwellers for their traditional forest rights.
