Sancharr is organising a one day Gaon Baidya Sammelan on 25th October 2011 at the Loka Vichar Kendra resource centre in Phalpaju near Banigochha on the occasion of Lord Dhanwantari’s (God of herbs) birthday in collaboration with Dhanwantari Gramin Baidya Sangh – an organisation of herbal practitioners. Sangathans facilitated by Fellows Prafulla and Rashmi (Adima Adhivasi Mukti Manch & Mati Maa Mahila Morcha respectively) will extend their support to the programme.
Gaon Baidyas (village herbal practitioners) play a great role in conservation of herbs and providing vital traditional health treatment in remote forest areas. More than 100 identified baidyas will assemble to find possible ways of conservation, restoration and regeneration of herbs as well as forest resources as the traditional healing system is intrinsically connected to conservation, livelihood and health.
