Suresh Rathaur

Work area : Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh

Born into a Dalit weaver family, Suresh experienced firsthand the hardships and discrimination faced by marginalized communities. Suresh Rauther is a visionary leader and passionate advocate for the rights of unorganized workers. As the founder of the MGNREGA Mazdoor Union, he has dedicated his life to empowering workers and fighting for their rights. These early experiences ignited a fire within him to bring about change and fight for justice.

Suresh pursued his education with determination, and during his time in primary school, he realized the pervasive influence of caste discrimination in society. In 2008, driven by a desire to transform the lives of unorganized workers, Suresh founded the MGNREGA Mazdoor Union.

The MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is a significant piece of legislation in ensuring employment and rights for workers. Suresh recognized its importance and spearheaded the union’s mission to advocate for workers’ rights, fight against exploitation, and establish a more just and equitable society.

His leadership and tireless efforts have been instrumental in empowering workers associated with the MGNREGA Mazdoor Union. He has organized meetings, awareness campaigns, protests, and negotiations with government officials to ensure fair wages, timely payments, and proper implementation of the MGNREGA law. Suresh’s vision extends beyond employment rights, as he actively collaborates with other organizations and movements to address broader socio-economic challenges.

The union’s influence has grown under Suresh’s guidance, leading to improved working conditions, increased awareness among workers, and a sense of solidarity among marginalized communities. Suresh firmly believes that true transformation can only be achieved by tackling the root causes of inequality and discrimination. He advocates for infrastructure development, access to education, healthcare facilities, and other essential services for marginalized communities.
